Karena Evans directed the recently released music video for Kendrick Lamar and SZA's song Luther.
The music video has caught the hip-hop world's attention not for its aesthetics but because of her being from the same hometown as Drake and her past collaborations with him on songs like Nice for What, In My Feelings, and God's Plan.

The director who hails from the city of Toronto, gained fame as the director of some of the Canadian rapper Drake's most famous music videos during his Scorpion album era. For the unversed, Aubrey Drake Graham is also from Toronto, Canada.
With God's Plan, she made her breakthrough in 2018. Evans then released Nice for What, which featured themes of independence, self-love and multiple actresses including Issa Rae, Olivia Wilde, Michelle Rodriguez, Rashida Jones, Zoe Saldana and many more.
Following that she directed, In My Feelings, which celebrated New Orleans culture and then I'm Upset, brought the Degrassi cast back together.
Since then Evans has moved on to the big screens, directing P-Valley (2020), Snowfall (2017), the Gossip Girl reboot, and Mr. & Mrs. Smith (TV series - 2024). She also directed for SZA, Jay Rock, artists from Top Dawg Entertainment, and now for Kendrick Lamar. Evans is known for the distinct visual language in her direction style.

Evans adopts a simple style for the recently released video, going for a minimalist black-and-white style for Kendrick and SZA's Luther. The visual resemblances to Drake's most recent Nokia video only served to heighten comparisons. Some fans speculated that it was a jab from Evan, considering her past with Drake and now her latest collab with Kendrick Lamar.
Karena Evans has now become the latest addition to the Kendrick Lamar-Drake feud with her latest collab with Kendrick and SZA for Luther.
