Kendrick Lamar is now officially a brand ambassador for Chanel. The French luxury brand announced the news this week. The beloved rapper will front its new Spring/Summer 2025 eyewear campaign, which launches on April 22, 2025.
This news took the internet by storm with one user even saying,
"Hip-hop just went haute couture"
According to reports, over the past few years, Kendrick Lamar has built a relationship with the fashion house. From custom Chanel looks at the 2023 Met Gala to co-directing a couture short film for the brand, his presence was already there within the brand. His new role as brand ambassador is a continuation of that.
The move comes at a time when Lamar is gaining significant attention in the global music scene. His track Luther, featuring SZA, is currently in its ninth consecutive week at the top of the Billboard Hot 100.
The 37-year-old musician's ongoing 'Grand National Tour' was officially launched with SZA on April 19, 2025. The trek has sold out venues across North America.
Chanel took to their official Instagram handle to share the news, captioning:
"Musician and House ambassador Kendrick Lamar shares his own take on the allure of CHANEL, sporting a pair of sunglasses from the CHANEL Spring-Summer 2025 eyewear collection, adorned with delicate crystal beads."
Kendrick Lamar mentioned in a statement:
"Chanel has a timeless legacy and that is always something I can get behind. Since they don’t make clothes for men, I knew it would have to be glasses."
On the other hand, Hypebeast reports that Chanel's fashion president, Bruno Pavlovsky, stated:
"We strongly believe in eyewear and its potential. More than a simple fashion accessory, eyewear is part of the Chanel allure and is regularly seen on the runway. Its versatile style, playing with the house codes, brings a finishing touch to the silhouette."
He added:
"Through the 'Chanel & moi' program, we developed various services for this category, in order to offer a perfect fit and the best experience to our clients."
