HAIM has announced that a fourth album is on the way.
Their upcoming album, titled I Quit, comes out on June 20 via Columbia, and it features artwork created by Paul Thomas Anderson. It serves as the follow-up to their 2020 Women in Music Pt. III, and was produced by Danielle Haim and Rostam Batmanglij.
Ahead of the album's release, the band dropped their third single of the year, Down to Be Wrong, which follows Relationships and Everybody's Trying to Figure Me Out.
Paul Thomas Anderson is a longtime collaborator of the band and a family friend of the Haims. He previously directed the band's music videos for Man From the Magazine and Summer Girl. Furthermore, as reported by Pitchfork, he cast Alana Haim in his films Licorice Pizza and One Battle After Another, in addition to shooting the cover artwork for Women in Music Pt. III.
Everything we know about HAIM's forthcoming album:
The announcement came on April 23, when the sister trio, comprising Alana, Danielle, and Este Haim, took to the stage at The Bellwether in Los Angeles for their first proper gig since September 2023.
At the show, they announced that their forthcoming 15-track album will see them reunite with producer Rostam Batmanglij, known for his work with Vampire Weekend and Clairo.
As for their latest single, Down to Be Wrong, it serves as an ode to confidence and self-preservation:
“Don’t need you to understand, don’t know if you can,” says the final message, before closing with: “Red Lights are up ahead, but I keep walking.”
The band teased the single just earlier this week when they posted on social media:
“This is going to be a fun week. Our next single ‘Down To Be Wrong’ out Thursday”.
The band also confirmed that the music video for the same will drop tomorrow, on April 25, and was directed by Bradley and Pablo. It will also reportedly feature a guest appearance from The Perks of Being A Wallflower actor Logan Lerman.
As for the official cover artwork mimics a 2004 photo of Jared Leto kissing Scarlett Johansson while checking his cell phone. It follows suit in their recent covers, which paid homage to Nicole Kidman’s iconic meme of what she looked like after she signed her divorce papers and another legendary Kate Moss image.
At the time of writing, more details about the band's upcoming album remain scarce, though NME has reported that it will feature titles like Gone, Take Me Back, and more.
