Gracie Abrams talks about her friendship with Lorde: "I feel my nervous system regulate differently"

In her recent Billboard cover story, 25-year-old Gracie Abrams opened up about her close-knit bond with “one of her favorite people”: none other than Lorde.

Describing the Solar Power singer as someone who’s “800 years old inside,” Abrams shared one of the most tender quotes we’ve heard in a while:

“Whenever we’re together, I feel my nervous system regulate differently.”

For Abrams, just knowing someone like Lorde exists is a form of calm in itself before admitting that she’s been a longtime admirer of Lorde’s career.

“It’s comforting that there are people like her that exist, where you know that that’s a trusted person who you could always lean on.”

Gracie Abrams on Olivia Rodrigo: “She’s just lovely beyond measure”

Of course, fans already know that Abrams and Olivia Rodrigo are besties.

In the same interview, the I Love You, I’m Sorry singer spoke from the heart about her friendship with the vampire pop star and how thankful she is for Rodrigo’s early support.

“I adore her with my whole heart forever and ever. She gave me such a shot opening for her on the SOUR tour. And when she started putting music out again, that was just, like, such an exciting voice to hear.”

Their friendship has stood the test of time (for a few years now), and Abrams made it clear that she’s on Team Olivia for life.

“She’s just lovely beyond measure. She’s somebody who I feel really lucky to know... But to champion her forever is my plan.”

Gracie Abrams on Taylor Swift: “I learned a lot from her”

Another icon in Abrams’ inner circle is the one and only Taylor Swift. The For Real This Time singer shared what it’s like being in the megastar’s orbit and how it's helped her gain perspective.

“Having been in Taylor’s orbit, and she’s, like, the most well-known artist there is. It really helps put everything in perspective, where it’s, like, I really don’t have it that bad in terms of invasion of privacy, you know what I mean?”

She added:

“I feel like I learned a lot from her, obviously, but one of the things that I’ve felt lucky to observe is how extreme it can be [for her]. It helps right-size my own s**t.”

Gracie Abrams Opens Up About Her Songwriting Slump: “I felt a little sick”

Even with the success of her breakout hit That’s So True, Abrams revealed that the pressure to follow it up took a toll on her creativity.

“Every time I sat down to try to write something, I felt a little sick. I was thinking, like, ‘How do I do something that will beat it?’”

As her career gains momentum, she also spoke about the increased noise around chart positions and streaming stats.

“There are more people [than ever] telling you what’s going on charts-wise, radio-wise, streaming numbers, whatever. That can start to be internalized, and I actually really hate how that feels.”
