Ariana Grande's latest song, Twilight Zone, has made its debut at the top spot on the US Spotify chart.
According to the verfied X account of Chart Data:
"Ariana Grande's 'twilight zone' debuts at #1 on the US Spotify chart with 1.89 million streams."
Ariana Grande just released the deluxe version of her album Eternal Sunshine: Brighter Days Ahead, along with a short film based on the concept of memory wiping, taken from her 2024 music video, We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love). The deluxe version of the album features the following tracks, along with an extended intro.
- Twilight Zone
- Warm
- Dandelion
- Past Life
- Hampstead
Among the six songs is Twilight Zone, which ranks as the highest-performing compared to the others. According to Billboard, the song seems to be a way for the Wicked actress to revisit her past relationship with her ex-husband and L.A. real estate agent, Dalton Gomez.
The lyrics of the song seem to suggest that Ariana is awestruck by the fact that the relationship happened, and seems to offer a final goodbye to him and their relationship, She sings:
Pretend these songs aren’t about you (Songs aren’t about you) / Hope this might be the last one / ’Cause I’m not foolin’ anyone (I’m not foolin’).
She continues:
And it’s not like I’m still not over you / It’s so strange, this I never do / Not that I miss you, I don’t / Sometimes, I just can’t believe / You happened / It’s not like I’d ever change a thing / ’Cause I’m right here where I’m meant to be / Not that I’d call you, I won’t / Sometimes, I just can’t believe / You happened.
The theory has also been evidenced by the fact that just before the pair announced they were dating in 2020, Grande had a Twilight Zone-themed Halloween party.
The song seems to be the next smash from her album after We Can’t Be Friends. The 34+35 singer has the #1 U.S. and #3 global track on the Spotify charts with Twilight Zone and two other tracks, while on Apple Music, the song ranks #8.
