After two failures as a music festival, the Fyre brand is heading in a new direction.

The name was once synonymous with a luxury Bahamian getaway that turned into an event disaster recently. It is now being rebranded as a music streaming service.

The move comes after documentarian and streaming entrepreneur Shawn Rech acquired some of the intellectual property (IP) tied to the Fyre Festival, which includes its name and trademarks.

As a result, Fyre will now continue as a subscription-based and ad-supported platform for music videos and audio streaming. The launch is currently slated for Thanksgiving 2025, Deadline reports.

In a statement shared with Deadline, Shawn Rech mentioned:

"Music networks are all just programming now and I have no interest in watching people slip on bananas. It has nothing to do with music. I needed a big name that people would remember, even if it’s attached to infamy, so that’s why I bought these [trademarks] to start the streaming network."

He also added:

"This is not about festivals or hype — it's about putting the power of music discovery back in the hands of the fans. We are building something authentic and lasting."

Fyre Festival was launched in 2017

The original Fyre Festival was launched by entrepreneur Billy McFarland and rapper Ja Rule. According to reports, it promised a high-end music experience on a private Bahamian island.

However, considering the recent events involving the festival and the Mexican Government, reality was far from that. With reported substandard accommodations, poor planning, and an absence of performers, the event collapsed.

Moreover, Billy McFarland was later sentenced to six years in prison for wire fraud and other charges. He served for four years before being released in 2022.

Despite the damage to the brand, the name "Fyre" remains recognizable. Deadline reports that it is something that Shawn Rech hopes to turn into an advantage.

The reimagined Fyre will operate under the new company Fyre Music Streaming Ventures LLC, registered in Ohio. It will offer a traditional subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) model, which is expected to cost around $3.99 per month.

Also, it will have a Free Ad-Supported Streaming TV (FAST) option. The FAST channel will launch with a focus on hip-hop and pop music, but may expand into different genres like heavy metal and others. It will depend on audience interest.

Users will be able to submit content and vote on what gets featured. This is expected to make it a fan-driven platform. An audio-only streaming option is also being planned. It is also worth noting that all content will be verified using metadata tools like GraceNote for proper attribution and quality control.

Reports suggest that Billy McFarland is expected to have a presence on the platform. However, he will not be producing live events for the streaming company. Shawn Rech noted that Billy might appear for some other roles depending on the platform's growth.
