Authorities and organizers of Fyre Festival 2 shared an important update about the festival on April 4, 2025.
Before discussing the update, it must be noted that the festival’s venue was shifted from Isla Mujeres to Playa del Carmen. However, on April 3, 2025, authorities of the latter city posted on X that they had no clue about any such festival.
Following the notification, Fyre Festival 2 authorities shared an Instagram post notifying that they had been working with Playa del Carmen to organize the event. According to the release, they wrote:
“FYRE has been working directly with the government of Playa del Carmen (PDC) and their officials since March 5, 2025 to ensure a safe and successful event. All media reports suggesting our team has not been working with the government of PDC are simply inaccurate and based on misinformation.”
The post stated that Fyre Festival 2 followed all the required rules and worked closely with officials in Playa del Carmen. Starting March 12, the event received an invitation letter for artists. Over the next two weeks, FYRE got various permits for hosting, marketing, and filming the festival. They also paid the necessary fees.
By March 26, an environmental permit was issued. A joint press conference took place on March 27, and the next day, government accounts on social media publicly welcomed and supported the event. In its X post, Playa del Carmen city officials wrote (translated):
“In relation to the information that has begun to circulate about an alleged event called "Fyre 2", the municipal government of Playa del Carmen informs that no event with that name will be held in our city.”
Billy McFarland suggested that Fyre Festival 2 would be a one-time experience
The Instagram post featured several screenshots that supposedly showed documents submitted to the city, including what looked like a pre-approved event permit. It also showed email exchanges with city officials.
A press conference was also held recently in which Fyre Festival 2 organizer Billy McFarland spoke positively about working with Playa del Carmen, saying he and the team were grateful for the support they received.
He shared that Fyre Festival 2 represented a chance for him to make things right and follow through on his promises, despite the challenges. He also asked people to stop spreading false information about the event not happening, explaining that it was making it harder for him to get travel approval. On March 31, 2025, Billy McFarland updated the festival’s lineup, saying:
“This week, we will begin to release a lineup. We will have DJs, rappers, reggae artists, pop stars but also athletes, divers, models, pilots and creators who will lead the experiences for our guests. Fyre is all about these intimate experiences. We will have dozens of artists in a private party-like setting.”
He went on:
“Fyre is all about the people you will meet, the memories you will make and the stories that you will be able to tell for the rest of your life. Guys, Fyre 2 can only happen once. Once it’s sold out, that’s it.”
Previously, rapper Antonio Brown said he would be performing at Fyre Festival 2. Despite contradicting reports, McFarland has time and again reiterated that the second edition of the festival will positively happen.
