The question of what happened to singer Bon Jovi shook the internet recently. However, despite what reports have mentioned, he is alive. The rumor mill started buzzing after a report by Daily Mail on April 10, 2025, flashed the title:

“Bon Jovi and Deep Purple legend dies as heartbroken family pay tribute”

However, the news was about Ioannis Vasilopoulos, a cover designer, who worked with Bon Jovi and the rock band Deep Purple. Vasilopoulos died at 66, and his family shared a statement following his death.

This wasn’t the first that the singer was surrounded by such rumors. According to the Asbury Park Press, in 2011, a musician from Pennsylvania posted a fake death notice for the singer. This caused news reports about his supposed death.

The notice said that the singer died after he was found unconscious at a hotel in Asbury Park. In response, Jovi posted a photo with a message that read:

“Heaven looks a lot like New Jersey.”

His name reportedly came up during a trend on TikTok in 2022 where people played pranks about celebrity deaths. Meanwhile, Ioannis Vasilopoulos’ obituary read:

“We announce with heavy hearts the passing of Ioannis, our beloved artist, husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend, who has left us for the great beyond. We find comfort knowing that Ioannis is reunited with his father, mother and other beloved family and friends. The outpouring of love for Ioannis and his work is also a great comfort.”

Bon Jovi reflected on his recovery from vocal cord surgery

Bon Jovi had a vocal cord surgery in 2024. He reflected on his recovery multiple times. While appearing on The Kelly Clarkson Show in 2024, Clarkson asked how depressing the journey was for him. He explained that it wasn’t so much depressing as it was a time for deep reflection.

He had to consider the possibility that his journey might be over, but he chose to stay hopeful, trust in a higher power, and commit to working on his recovery each day. He also shared that the events shown in the documentary had taken place a year or two earlier, and by then, he had already made good progress toward healing.

Bon Jovi also addressed his recovery journey while speaking at a live panel last year. He said:

“It’s been a difficult road, but I found a doctor in Philadelphia who did something called a medialization because one of my cords was literally atrophying.”

He explained that it's common for people to develop vocal nodules or issues like a deviated septum, which can affect the vocal cords over time. Jovi joked that the only thing he ever put in his nose was his finger, implying he hadn’t done anything harmful to cause damage.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Bon Jovi shared that dealing with his vocal cord issue over the past decade had been tough because it was something he couldn’t control.

He showed the difference between his vocal cords using his thumbs, noting that the stronger one had been straining the weaker one. Doctors fixed the issue by placing a plastic implant in his vocal cord, and he spent nearly two years in recovery.
