Canadian singer and rapper Tory Lanez was a guest on the recent episode of the Full Send Podcast. In the episode, which was released on February 28, 2025, Lanez joined the conversation from prison. During his incarceration period, Lanez had been working on an album that is expected to be out on March 7, 2025.
On February 20, 2025, a video was posted on his Instagram where he was seen discussing his plans to execute the album. While speaking to Kyle Forgeard on the podcast, he said that was the day when he started recording the album. Tory Lanez said:
“Even though this is a very, a very crazy task that has never ever been done like you have to think Kyle. This is, you know everybody who says this ‘Yo, we have done music from prison or we have done music from jail,’ usually, it’s like this over the phone.”
Mentioning the shortcomings of such a situation that could affect the music quality, he said:
“Like that’s not what I am doing here. Like this is the first ever in real-time prison album. An album that’s recorded in prison for prisoners by a prisoner in real-time as a prisoner is going through his real-life sentence. And it’s professional. It’s going to sound exactly like a Tory Lanez album but just a pain is there.”
He reiterated that it would be the first-ever professionally recorded prison album that has never been executed before. Lanez also gave a glimpse into his life in prison, saying fights were a regular occurrence, which, according to him, was normal in California.
Tory Lanez appreciated his engineering team for their contributions
Tory Lanez shared that while he was in county jail working on Alone at Prom Deluxe, he faced several challenges, especially being in solitary confinement. Unlike the rumor that he had an hour outside his cell each day, he was confined around the clock.
Since jail officials recognized the harsh conditions, they placed a payphone in his cell. He spent hours on the phone exploring ways to record music, stepping into an engineering role himself. This process led to experimenting with AI tools to refine his voice over the phone.
He credited his talented engineering team, including Joe Hahn, Super Saiyan Mike, and Angie, for helping make the project possible. Speaking about the difference he wants to create through the album, Tory Lanez said:
“I am not trying to do the norm. I just want it to be as possible as it could be on the level of the norm because where I am at is impossible for me to be normal, if that makes sense. Where I am at, I am supposed to be shot down on my hands, supposed to be tied behind my back or stay are.”
Tory Lanez expressed his desire to inspire his fans by proving that obstacles can be overcome. He sees himself as living proof of beating the odds, having recorded a professional album entirely through a jail phone, something he believes has never been done before.
