'American Idol' alum Colin Stough reportedly charged with and arrested for DUI: All we know so far

Colin Stough, the 20-year old singer who won hearts during Season 21 of American Idol, is currently facing legal challenges.

On February 28, 2025, Stough was arrested and charged with driving under the influence (DUI), underage consumption of alcohol, and failure to be careful while driving, according to an exclusive TMZ report that quoted authorities. Stough has eventually bailed out.

The arrest followed a single vehicle accident, according to People, which happened on the eastbound I-840 greeway near the 37-mile marker in William Country, Tenesse, just south of Nashville.

Responding officers found Colin Stough at the scene and took him to a hospital for treatment, before proceeding with any kind of legal procedures.

The TMZ report elaborated:

Colin was arrested and charged with DUI, underage consumption of alcohol, and failure to exercise due care, TMZ is told. It was not clear if he suffered any injuries in the crash, but he was taken to the hospital and cleared before he was booked. He has since bailed out.

Following his bail, fans are hoping that the singer is unharmed and safe.

Some fans are also saying that he should have been careful, and exercised caution while driving. Drinking and driving is never safe, and netizens were quick to point that out.

TMZ also reported that they have tried to reach out to Colin Stough several times, but they haven't heard back from him yet.

On the same day as his arrest, Colin Stough was spotted sharing a video on Instagram. In the video, he is seen performing in a forest setting. He added a text on the video, saying:

I’m not perfect and will never claim to be. But I will admit when I’m wrong and that’s a fact.

He captioned the video, saying:

"Never let anyone hold you down for not being a certain way."

Colin Stough's official website says he was born in Gattman, Mississippi and, according to Famous Birthdays he was born on July 28, 2004, Colin Stough's love for music started at a very young age and, according to Rick's Cafe American, at one point worked as an HVAC technician.

His breakthrough came with his American Idol audition, where he delivered a powerful performance on Lynyrd Skynrd's Simple Man. He was one of the finalists on the season.

Colin Stough received love from the fans for his vocals and energetic performances, and appreciation from the judges of American Idol. Judge Katy Perry said:

He's the Brad Pitt of country music. He's got the taste and the song choice and the vocal ability.

Beyond the show, Stough has received immense love from the people of Mississippi. He has done a number of tours and shows throughout US.

Colin Stough is scheduled to perform at Sarasota Springs, New York, on March 6, 2025. Following this the singer is slated to perform in Vermont and Rhode Island.
