"My new anthem!"— Fans react as aespa releases English version of 'Whiplash'

The South Korean girl group aespa released the English version of their song "Whiplash" on March 27, 2025, and it has caused a buzz on social media.

The original Korean version was released on October 21, 2024, and it was a part of their fifth mini album that goes by the same name, "Whiplash." As soon as the announcement of the release of the English version came in, fans expressed their joy and excitement.

The band aespa, popular for including hyper-pop and metaverse concepts in their music, made headlines after the announcement of the release of Whiplash's English version on March 24. Known for their hit singles like "Black Mamba" and "Next Level," fans are left overjoyed and ecstatic to hear Whiplash's English version.

They took to social media to pour their thoughts. This is what some of them had to say:

While most of the reactions were cheerful, some fans were doubtful about the release. One of them said:

''wait should i listen to it..?" remarked @aotyttpd.

In October 2024, "Whiplash" became so popular that it reached the number eight position on the Billboard Global 200 chart, making it the group's first song to be in the top 10 worldwide.

The group includes four members: Karina, who is the group leader, followed by Giselle, the Japanese rapper and singer; Winter, the singer and dancer; and Ningning, the Chinese singer. aespa made its debut in November 2020 with its single "Black Mamba." It got the highest number of views in 24 hours, a great milestone for the debut of a K-pop girl group.

In 2021, they released another single, "Next Level," and in October of the same year, they released their extended play (EP), Savage. It reached number 20 on the US Billboard 200 chart.

aespa gained huge success when they released their second extended play titled Girls in 2022. It went on to become the best-selling album in the history of the K-pop girl group.

With a streak of successful releases, fans are excited to experience the English version of the hit track "Whiplash," now officially out.
