Teddy Swims’ smash hit Lose Control has made history as the longest-running record on the Billboard Hot 100 top ten at 58 non-consecutive weeks on the chart. Lose Control surpassed The Weeknd’s Blinding Lights to set the record.

Lose Control was released in June 2023 and had an impressive trek from its debut position of ninety-nine to the peak position in March 2024. While fans have celebrated Teddy Swims’ achievement, some Netizens have found the song’s astronomic rise on the charts undeserved.

@chartdata shared the news of Lose Control’s Billboard record, and @BarbzKenDoll tweeted in response:

“Literally the most overrated radio hit song ever.”

More X users were not impressed with the news of Lose Control’s history-making moment and expressed the following:

“And still, this song is largely unknown by most of us,” @NarutoHyuga_1 stated.
“No one outside of the US knows that song, mind you,” @blackoutxvictim added.
“The way NOBODY knows this song,” @Bevylchi tweeted.

Notwithstanding the slew of negative comments, fans of the artist congratulated Swims on his achievement:

“Congratulations to Teddy,” @Twin_SZN stated.
“Great song,” @TeegeeAmore added.

Lose Control was ranked number one on the Billboard Year-End Hot 100 Singles of 2024. It has been certified diamond in France and platinum in other countries.

In Lose Control, Teddy Swims likens his relationship to a harmful substance that he can’t quit. He admits that without his partner, he is overcome with paranoia and solitude, and he feels worse when he is left alone:

A part of the chorus reads:

"I lose control/ When you’re not next to me (when you’re not here with me)/ I’m falling apart right in front of you, can’t you see?/ I lose control/ When you’re not next to meYeah, you’re breaking my heart, baby/ You make a mess of me,"

Swims described Lose Control in an interview with Prelude Press in June 2023. The powerhouse singer likened being in love to an addiction:

“Being in love can be like an addiction sometimes — always chasing the highs from the lows. It’s about losing yourself and losing control when it all starts to cave in and thinking that the only way out is through being with that person, chasing that feeling over and over again.”

Lose Control has won a Billboard Music Award for Top Radio Song and Top Hot 100 Song.
