This spring and summer, fans of the heavy metal band Metallica will have a chance to donate blood during the band's upcoming concerts across the U.S.
In a new collaboration with the American Red Cross and their own charity, All Within My Hands, Metallica has launched the A Sea of Hearts Beat As One Unified initiative, featuring multiple blood donation drives. These are scheduled to be hosted at select U.S. concert venues on their ongoing M72 World Tour.
NME reports that the drives will take place ahead of the shows while the band's stage crew sets up. Fans interested in participating in the drive will have to donate blood before the music begins. In return, participants will receive a limited-edition Metallica T-shirt while supplies last.
In an official press release issued by Metallica, it was stated that:
"As we get ready to head back out on the road, we are proud to announce that we’ve teamed up with All Within My Hands and the American Red Cross to contribute to each community the tour visits. Learn how you can participate in the Red Cross x Metallica Blood Drives at RedCrossBlood.org/Metallica."
It also added:
"AWMH will continue to hold volunteer events with local food banks, but on this leg of the tour, fans will also be able to give back by participating in blood drives at select M72 North American cities. At many of these stops, the drives will occur inside the venues while the road crew builds the stage! Everyone who comes to give blood at these drives will receive a limited-edition T-shirt, while supplies last."
"Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood, and the need for blood donations increases during the spring and summer months. By participating in these drives, the Metallica Family will help trauma victims, those facing cancer, new mothers, people living with sickle cell disease, and so many more."
"All blood types are needed, and almost anyone can donate blood! If you’re 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds, and are in generally good health, you may be eligible to donate blood. For additional information and eligibility requirements, visit RedCrossBlood.org. Sign up to donate today! Appointment space is limited, so visit RedCrossBlood.org/Metallica and be the hero of the day (we couldn't resist)."
