After more than five decades, the original Alice Cooper band has returned. Their newly dropped track, "Black Mamba," is the first release from the reunited lineup's upcoming album, The Revenge of Alice Cooper. The album is officially slated to be released on July 25, 2025.
The single features the signature gritty vibe with blues riffs and a psychedelic tinge. All of these are believed to be a nod to their early albums. The song has stirred a significant wave of reactions online.
"Black Mamba" opens the new upcoming album with a special guest appearance by Robby Krieger, the beloved guitarist of The Doors. Listen to the track below:
Fans react to Alice Cooper's "Black Mamba"
Alice Cooper took to their official X (formerly Twitter) handle to share:
"I’m crawling up your leg now baby/ To hiss-per in your ear/ A little poison lie now baby/ You got nothin’ to fear…except: The Revenge is here…Hi, it's me again, yours truly, Alice Cooper. But I'm not alone. You know them all too well. This time, there will be no cure. The Revenge of Alice Cooper - Alice Cooper Group. July 25th. First single and video for Black Mamba, featuring Robby Krieger of The Doors, is out today."
Fans were notably quick to gather in the comment section of the X post to share their thoughts regarding the song:
"Love it (to death). It actually does sound like a lost track between Muscle of Love and Welcome to My Nightmare. Release the rest now now now," expressed a fan.
"Awesome song!! Love it!! Love the vibe of the song, and the lyrics feel like that's really what a Black Mamba would say! Thank you, uncle Alice! Can't wait to get the album!" lauded another.
"I preordered mine. Alice always delivers!" shared a third.
"Loved the NEW SONG Alice!!! Took me right back to the day!!!! So glad you guys got together and did this. Looking forward to the rest of the album!" penned a fourth.
The original Alice Cooper band is made up of Alice Cooper (vocals), Michael Bruce (guitar), Dennis Dunaway (bass), Neal Smith (drums), and the late Glen Buxton (guitar). They first came together in the late 1960s. Some of their beloved albums are Love It to Death, Killer, and Billion Dollar Babies.
The band last released a full album together in 1973 (Muscle of Love) before Alice Cooper moved towards a solo career. Now, over 50 years later, The Revenge of Alice Cooper is expected to set a new chapter for the reunited band.
Ultimate Classic Rock reported that in a statement, Alice mentioned:
"We didn't know where it was gonna go. At the end we looked at each other and went, ‘Oh, that's pretty good!'"
He also added:
"If we are gonna do an original Alice record, I want it to sound like the original Alice band. The original band has a darker sound, and a heavier sound. It's a very different personality, and I even sing differently when I sing with those guys."
The upcoming Alice Cooper album features a posthumous guitar appearance by Glen Buxton, the original guitarist who passed away in 1997. His parts were retrieved from a 1970 track and revived for the song "What Happened to You."
