Kanye West appeared on the DJ Akademiks show on March 31, 2025, for a full interview. During the interview, which is available on Akademiks' official YouTube channel, the controversial rapper (wearing a KKK clan outfit) claimed that Travis Scott removed him from his album Utopia, stating:
"There was a perfect combination of me not having a name and likeness to me finding out about that shit to me being left out the album of that f***t a** Trav sh*t."
The singer continued:
"He took four of my songs from the ranch in Wyoming. My choruses, my exact singing singing lines. Replaced me with him or with other people put future scissors on the joints, took me off, I felt, with no explanation. Sh*t just comes out."
Kanye West also dissed artists such as Jay Z, Pusha T, Frank Ocean, and Kendrick Lamar, among others. West's ire against Scott is new, with the two having partied together and collaborated in 2024 and the year before in 2023, with West appearing on the Circus Maximus tour as well as at a concert in Rome.
Kanye West and Travis Scott collaboration history
Kanye West and Travis Scott started their collaboration early, starting with West signing Scott to the GOOD Music label in 2013. This resulted in Scott's featuring in the production of subsequent West albums, while he himself went on to release mixtapes such as Owl Pharaoh and Days Before Rodeo.
In 2016, Travis Scott accompanied West on the Saint Pablo tour before West was embroiled in controversies. In that same year, West also appeared as a guest star on Scott's debut album Rodeo. And in 2023 and 2024, as mentioned above, West appeared on Scott's Circus Maximus tour.
Travis Scott talked about meeting Kanye for the first time back in 2014 in an exclusive interview with Complex, stating:
"The first time I met Kanye, this ni**a came in—he had on these yellow Balenciagas—and I’m like, ‘Man, this ni**a is really here.’ He’s got on like seven chains. He came in, and he was on the phone. I’m like ‘F**k, this ni**a’s on the phone. ’ He dapped me up, he said my name, like ‘This ni**a actually know who I am!’"
He also talked about working with Kanye West on the Cruel Summer records as well as his own records:
“I was around for [the creation] of all the Cruel Summer records. [I have credits on] ‘To The World,’ ‘In The Morning,’ And I did some programming on the ‘Don’t Like’ remix. It was an experience. I’m pretty sure it’s nothing like no other artist or no other label anyone ever goes through. If you want to be an artist, it’s like, ‘I’m going to teach you how to make a song today."
The singer later added how he bounced off ideas with Kanye West on Owl Pharaoh EP, stating:
"I’ve been bouncing ideas back and forth with ‘Ye just to make it’s the illest shit ever. Kanye will be like ‘Dumb that down’ or like he’ll tell me cool shit to inspire me. Like, ‘Stop working on that,’ or ‘Sit here and listen to this shit. Don’t fuck with nothing else until you get through listening to this sh*t.’"
Kanye West and Travis Scott thus have had a mostly amiable relationship, with only West's tumultuous divorce from his now ex-wife Kim Kardashian causing some problems for Scott (who was dating Kylie Jenner, a relative of Kardashian) before West's new allegations in the aforementioned DJ Akademiks.
