Singer Jelly Roll has spoken about how deeply his daughter Bailee Ann has been affected by her mother's addiction. During an interview on The Pivot podcast, he said:
“It’s truly affected her life.”
Bailee's mom has been suffering from drug addiction since she was born, which caused emotional difficulties for his daughter, the country artist said. Earlier this month, Bailee’s mother was reportedly arrested for drug possession in Tennessee, according to a report in Yahoo! Life. The situation deeply affected Bailee.
Jelly Roll continued in the podcast:
“I’ve seen the effect that it’s had on her.”
He added:
“It broke her heart.”
Despite providing a stable home with his wife, Bunnie Xo, he acknowledged that the trauma of growing up with a parent battling addiction continues to impact Bailee’s life.
Bailee's birth mother has endured years of struggle with addiction, says Jelly Roll
Jelly Roll disclosed that Bailee's mother has struggled with addiction almost her whole life. He said:
“My child’s mother has struggled with drug addiction since my daughter’s been born pretty much.”
She was recently arrested in Tennessee for possession of drugs, which Jelly Roll found out about from a news article. According to the singer:
“It was a news article that her mother had went back to jail, had got caught with, like, meth or something.”
The arrest and the following mugshot took Bailee by surprise. Jelly Roll explained:
“This is a 16, 17-year-old that knows her mother is a drug addict, but like, her having to see the mugshot of her mother with just meth ate up on her face.”
He fought back tears as he spoke of how his daughter had to deal with the situation all over again.

Bailee had to deal with the emotional consequences of her mother's addiction
Jelly Roll recognized the difficulty Bailee had in coping with her mother's addiction, especially at such a young age. He said:
"I watched her go through it all over again. I was like, 'Ah, man,' I forgot 'cause I'm like, I'm 40 and I've done a lot of therapy and I've done a lot of work and I have a relationship with God that it hurt me, but I just got to pray about it and move on."
He said he is aware that Bailee, who is only 16, is perhaps not prepared to deal with these feelings:
“She don’t have any of those tools. She’s still gaining those tools. This hurts her.”
Despite the emotional burden, Bailee has been resilient. She has stayed committed to her studies and is now part of a dual enrollment program where she is taking college-level courses while still in high school. Jelly Roll has frequently taken pride in her drive, saying that she plans to become a lawyer.

Jelly Roll ponders his role in Bailee's struggle
The country star confessed that at times he blames himself for Bailee's suffering. Acknowledging the scrutiny that comes with his fame, he said:
"I told my wife, 'I've invited the world into our living room, so we've just gotta accept what comes with that."
He added:
“This is my fault more than anybody’s.”
Jelly Roll has been candid about his history of substance abuse and how it affected his life. According to People, in January 2024, he testified before Congress, calling for tougher action against the fentanyl epidemic. Although he has managed to get his life back on track, he knows that addiction has a lasting impact on families, particularly children.
