Billy Idol released a new song titled 77 featuring Avril Lavigne on April 22. 77 is the second track from his newly launched album, Dream Into It. On April 27, Billy Idol uploaded an Instagram post, talking about his connection with punk rock and what the song is about by adding,

"The song itself has touches of the past as well as, I think, still being relevant today. The first verse is kind of reflecting on the outsiders in society, and today there are a lot of people at school and stuff who wouldn't fit in with the cleat."

He further continued,

"It made me think about when I was young and when we started in punk rock and stuff in England and when America was in a depression and England was in an even worse depression. The sort of circumstances that led to punk rock because that was our way of talking about what was happening to us."

Idol also appreciated the Canadian singer Avril Lavigne during the conversation by saying,

"You're an incredible singer and made the song sound three times better just by being honest. So I think it really cemented that idea that I'm not just singing about the past. I'm singing about today. The two of us on it makes that happen."
