“Is she leaving K-pop now?” Internet reacts as Rosé reportedly withdraws from Korea Music Copyright Association

Rosé from the K-pop band Blackpink has reportedly withdrawn from the Korea Music Copyright Association (KOMCA). She submitted her request for termination on October 31, 2024, and after a three-month grace period, her membership was officially terminated on January 31, 2025.

According to reports, Rosé is the first artist to leave KOMCA since Seo Taiji in 2002. Taiji was the first Korean singer to opt out of KOMCA and is credited with revolutionizing the Korean Music industry in the early 1990s.

As indicated in Korea JoongAng Daily, KOMCA is a non-profit organization that manages the copyrights of musical works for artists and producers.

Rosé’s decision comes after she signed with Atlantic Records on September 16, 2024, as reported by Teen Vogue. The 23-year-old shared the news on her Instagram handle, she wrote,

“I know you’ve all waited sooo long for this moment, but I hope you’re READY for what’s in store for the next few months!!”

Some of her fans described it as a strategic move that will enable her to manage her copyrights more efficiently through U.S. markets, considering her rising popularity. While some were curious to know if she was retiring from K-pop.

Fans react as Rosé opts out of KOMCA

As the news of Rosé’s withdrawal from KOMCA spread, netizens were quick to take to their respective social media accounts to react. While some appreciated her move and supported the rising star, others gave mixed reactions.

“That's great for her she's really big, so she'll get more attention in the us” Another added.
“that's a bold move, it's always interesting to see artists take their careers in new directions.” A user wrote on X.
“With Rosé making this move, could we see other K-pop idols follow? The industry is shifting.” A person said.

However, others were not sure if Rosé made the right decision. Some called her “desperate” for Western attention.

“She is so disgraced, no one listens to her in the West, she wants Western recognition so much, but in reality no one knows her” One wrote.
“as head J-Hope stan I think this is a desperate tactic, she needs to stop leeching off of western music.” Another chimed in.
“Time will only tell whether this move is good … All the best ROSE” A user who was skeptical about her decision wrote.

Blackpink announces World Tour 2025

On February 19, 2025, Blackpink took to its official account on X to announce its World Tour, starting on July 5, 2025, in Goyang, while ending on January 16, 2026, in Tokyo. The tour covers America, Europe, and Asia.

Fans have been anticipating the band’s reunion after its group members - Lisa, Jisoo, Jennie, and Rosé embarked on a journey to pursue their solo projects. According to Variety, Blackpink’s last performance was in 2023 when they closed out their "Born Pink" tour in Seoul.
