Mnet has announced that they will be launching a new version of Unpretty Rapstar after a hiatus of almost 10 years. Unpretty Rapstar is a South Korean rap competition television show that was aired on Mnet. The show first debuted in 2015 and was hosted by rapper San E. The rap show went on to produce three seasons, after which production was stopped. The last season of the show was released in July 2016.

Now, after a long break, Mnet has decided to work on a new version of the rap show with the intention of producing a group as famous as Iz*One in the K-pop rap world. Iz*One is a South Korean–Japanese girl group that was founded by the same entertainment company, Mnet. However, Iz*One was formed through a different reality TV show known as Produce 48. However, the group disbanded almost four years ago in 2021.

The announcement was reposted on X by Kpop Charts, and the comment section saw mixed reactions from the netizens. Some were looking forward to this new venture by Mnet, while others defended Iz*One, saying no other group can compare to them. One of the users commented:
