Kanye West took to his X (formerly Twitter) handle to make some shocking revelations about the music industry's two top hip-hop artists, Kendrick and Drake.
It's not new to fans, music lovers, and critics that Kendrick and Drake have an ongoing beef. Moreover, this beef started ages ago. It was often marked by public disputes and diss tracks.
The long-going beef has impacted both the artists' careers and public perception. However, the recent comment by Kanye has added another layer to this feud. In his comment, Ye said:
''But he was a pawn to take down. Because these record labels don't want big artists because the smaller artist are easier to control and replace.''
Kanye West's explosive claims amid the Kendrick-Drake feud
On March 19, 2025, Kanye took to his X handle to express a controversial opinion regarding the beef going on between the Certified Lover Boy singer Drake and Kendrick Lamar.
In a series of social media posts, Kanye referred to Kendrick as an ''industry pawn.'' Here he implied that the music industry is using Kendrick to take down Drake.
According to Kanye West, Drake is a prominent and well-known artist in the industry who has power and fame, and that makes him hard to control or challenge.
As for Kendrick Lamar, the industry sees him as someone who is easy to control, manage, and manipulate. Hence, chances are that he is being used to take down Drake.
Recently, when Kendrick won the 2025 Grammy Award for Record of the Year and Song of the Year for his track Not Like Us, Kanye supported and praised him for his wins. Kanye West once also remarked that Lamar ''killed'' in the feud between him and Drake. The recent comment he made and his support for Lamar highlight Ye's support for Lamar in the feud.
Earlier in January 2025, Drake filed a lawsuit against Universal Music Group (UMG), alleging that Kendrick's song Not Like Us portrayed him as a s*x offender and that would cause damage to his reputation.
UMG has, however, denied the allegations and is seeking dismissal of the lawsuit. Kendrick will be heading for a Grand National Tour in 2025 along with SZA. While Drake is all set to drop his much-anticipated album Scorpion II in April 2025.
