Big Sean has just dropped a new single without a single warning.
The hiphop artist paid homage to Black History Month as it winds down with a brand new freestyle track, "Head To The Sky." Posting on his Instagram and X, the 36-year-old released the track in this unusual way rather than releasing it on music streaming platforms like YouTube and Spotify.
The song, complete with an official music video filmed on a New York City rooftop, talks about the hardships of life, particularly for Black people in the past and now.
Black History Month is a good time for a song that discusses Black tenacity, ancestry, and the challenges that lead to achievement. Co-signs from rap fans and colleagues may encourage the Detroit artist to give the catchy offering a formal release, even if it isn't yet available on streaming sites.
Audience reception
Netizens have given their decree about the track, with many having a positive reaction while others reacting pretty indifferently about it.
One person expressed his indifference saying: "He's getting boring each year"

Another wrote: "yall will call anything a freestyle this s*** was rehearsed… BRING BACK OG FREESTYLES"

A third wrote: "Is he still relevant or not?"

On the other hand, fans among them were overjoyed to have been surprised by a single from Big Sean.
One person wrote: "the goat is back"

Another wrote: "Sean don’t miss"

A third wrote: "whew. that was bar after bar, sean's frees never disappoint."

Some fans named him underestimated: "Always underrated, underly appreciated. But those there from the very start will never forget what you’ve given us. Finally famous forever!"

Big Sean's new book: Go Higher
Big Sean talked about his new book, Go Higher: Five Practices for Purpose, Success, and Inner Peace, on the TODAY show recently. The Grammy-nominated musician revealed that his goal is to help people achieve fulfillment, and his own experiences served as inspiration for the song.

Being a father has also greatly influenced his viewpoint. Big Sean talked candidly about how having children has altered his perspective on life and his sense of purpose, stressing the need for raising the next generation. He made links between his child's upbringing and the teachings he wants his book to deliver.
His life has always been heavily influenced by his family. He thought back on his grandmother's legacy—she was a member of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion during World War II—and gave her credit for instilling in him the principles of love and resiliency, which have shaped his path to this day. He discusses that in the new single as well.
