Xiumin talked about his music in an exclusive interview with Femina.in on January 29, 2025, stating:

"I assume this differs for each member, but I’ve been influenced by the EXO members a lot. Since each member has a distinct personality and style, it helps me pursue my own direction that does not overlap. Recently, I’ve been focusing a lot on the performance aspect, preparing music that allows fans to enjoy, have fun, and create more memorable moments together.'"

He later added:

"I was never the strongest dancer in the group, but because EXO members are such amazing dancers, I was inspired and improved a lot over time. Watching talented K-pop artists these days also motivates me to keep pushing myself. You know, it’s getting harder to keep up because newer generations are so incredibly talented!"

Xuimin continued:

"But honestly, it’s great to see. I haven’t done a lot of roles, but I’ve mostly played bright, innocent, and playful characters. In the future, I want to try roles that show a different side of me, like a villain or something opposite to what I’ve done before. I also want to do an action film! "

Xuimin also talked about his upcoming album as well as his other plans:

"Since I’m preparing for my new album, I’ve only been listening to songs for it. I will spend more time with fans in 2025 compared to this year. I’m not sure how it’s going to be but I'm also quietly hoping for unit activities with other members. I have many plans and things I want to do next year...."

Xuimin released his debut mini album, Brand New, on September 26, 2022. The album was released by SM Entertainment and Dreamus. It did well on the charts upon release, topping out at the second spot on the Korean chart as well as charting within the top ten positions on the Japanese album chart.
