Other fans expressed that La Isla Bonita’s achievements showed that Madonna’s legacy is timeless:

La Isla Bonita was featured in Madonna’s 1968 album True Blue. Pop legend has it that the song’s instrumental demo was originally offered to Michael Jackson, who rejected it before Madonna hopped on it.

In La Isla Bonita, Madonna croons about an imaginary island, San Pedro. The song features some lines sung in Spanish, and in Mathew Rettenmund’s Encyclopedia Madonnica, the singer calls it her “tribute to the Latin American people.”

Some of the song’s lyrics read:

"Tropical the island breeze, all of nature wild and free(Ah-ah, ah-ah, ah-ah)/ This is where I long to be, La Isla Bonita/ And when the samba played, the sun would set so high/ (Ah-ah, ah-ah, ah-ah)/ Ring through my ears and sting my eyes, your Spanish lullaby."

Mary Lambert directed the accompanying music video.
