Kevin Bacon, who became famous after appearing in the film Footloose in 1984, recently returned to his go-to song from his early-career film. Kevin performed a live version of Kenny Loggins' classic hit song Footloose on April 27, 2025, during the Stagecoach Festival in Indio, California. Kevin had his brother and long-time musical partner, Michael Bacon, on stage with him when he performed with the Bacon Brothers at the Palomino stage.

The performance itself was remarkable as the song is synonymous with one of his most famous on-screen characters. The performance was uncut and did not include any dance routines from the film.

Details of the performance

The Bacon Brothers took over the Palomino stage at Stagecoach, which normally features folk, Americana, and country performers. Kevin Bacon tambourined and sang, and Michael Bacon provided guitar support. They played Footloose in the stripped-down, no-drama reinterpretation of the hit, not deviating from the melody.

This happened on the third and final day of the 2025 Stagecoach Festival. Other performers of the day included Post Malone, Jelly Roll, and Backstreet Boys.

Kevin Bacon's past words on performing Footloose

Kevin Bacon has always spoken about his ambivalent relationship with the Footloose legacy. In previous interviews, he said that he tried hard to avoid dancing to the song at weddings and parties. He rationalized that when party deejays played Footloose, everybody automatically assumed that he was going to get up and dance, which he normally did not.

According to Today, he said,

"I love it I think it’s great. It’s like all of those things that you think ‘Oh my gosh, is it ever going to go away?’ At a certain point, you have to embrace the beast.”

He continued,

"I think that it was a great gift to be part of that movie. I certainly took it very seriously when I was doing it, and I love that people will still come up and say that they just showed it to their kids.”

The Bacon Brothers' contribution to the festival

The Bacon Brothers—Michael Bacon and Kevin Bacon—have been playing as a duo since the mid-1990s. They have expanded their musical scope to folk rock, country, and soul music. Although their professional life as musicians has been overshadowed by Kevin's stardom, they are still actively touring and can be seen in the recording studio.

Their act at Stagecoach helped make the festival free-wheeling, introducing new material and a performance of film heritage. Including Footloose in their set was perhaps an acknowledgment of the eclecticism of the festival crowd and the song's widespread exposure.

Footloose in the festival context

Stagecoach 2024 had an incredible roster of acts on different stages to delight the horde of retro and modern country, country-pop, and vintage pop and rock. The festival was an expansive spectrum – from Lana Del Rey's shocking detour into a country-infused set to the all-time pop icons like the Backstreet Boys, with a wide variation of genres everywhere.

There, the Bacon Brothers' rendition of Footloose was a nod to pop culture history and a piece of music that easily fit within the larger atmosphere of the festival.
