Black Flag released their last album back in 2013
The band released their last album, What The..., all the way back in 2013. The album is their seventh studio album and was their first new album after 1985's In My Head. The sporadic releases were due to the band's breakup in 1985, after which they reunited sporadically till 2012.
After their reformation, the band had a brief lawsuit between Greg Ginn and his lineup of Black Flag vs the band's former lineup consisting of Morris, Dukowski, Stevenson and Egerton, who were trying to perform the band's songs under the name of FLAG.
The copyright infringement case failed after the sitting judge on the petition ruled out a federal investigation and ruled that the name Flag was not a copyright infringement against Black Flag.
The band's founder, Greg Ginn, talked about the band and its pioneering influence on punk music in the US in an exclusive interview with Stay Thirsty Media on March 4, 2010:
"Well, when we put the band together, it was first conceptualized by myself and our first singer Keith Morris. The first time I heard the word “hardcore” was in the early 80’s, so I guess it was an innovative route. We didn’t think of it in that kind of genre. We were influenced by the Stooges and then the Ramones; they inspired us..."
The guitarist continued:
"...People started putting their own tags on it and that kind of thing. I just thought that with what was going on with rock at that time, we had a lot to add to the spectrum. I felt the band would find an audience if we got it out there, but I didn’t define it beyond that. I leave that to other people."
Black Flag is best known for their albums such as My War and Family Man. The band is a punk band, specifically in the hardcore punk subgenre.
