One of the most awaited games, Transformers: Reactivate, has been officially canceled. It was a collaborative project between Splash Damage and Hasbro, who owns the Transformers franchise. The launch announcement was made in December 2022 when the game development company told fans about the new partnership regarding the Transformers: Reactivate.
The story of the game revolved around an alien named "The Legion," whom the players had to tackle to bring back the Transformers. The game was supposed to be multiplayer, allowing up to 4 players at a time. But it never reached a playable stage for the public to play and try it out.
Splash Damage uploaded a new statement on X (previously Twitter) on January 8, announcing that the Transformers: Reactive has been canceled and the company will be focusing on other projects as of now.
Splash Damage faces possible resource constraints
Splash Damage uploaded a new tweet on X, announcing the cancellation of Transformers: Reactivate.
In the announcement, the company said that they have decided to focus on other projects and games.
They also stated that they are struggling to continue the development of the game Transformers: Reactivate by using the line, "a number of roles across the studio are now potentially at risk of redundancy."
Splash Damage thanked the team members by saying,
"This decision did not come lightly, and it is a difficult time for the studio and our people. We want to take a moment to thank the team who worked on Transformers for their dedication and passion."
They further thanked Hasbro by adding,
"Hasbro was an incredible and supportive partner throughout, and we hope to work with them again. To the many fans, your excitement and support helped keep us going."
Splash Damage ended the statement by adding,
"While not being able to see the game through to release is painful, having to say goodbye to friends and colleagues hurts even more. We're now focused on doing everything we can to support them through this tough period, just as we are committed to caring for those who will stay with us as we build a stronger Splash Damage for the future. Thank you for your compassion and understanding."
The Transformers: Reactivate created a lot of hype since its announcement at The Game Awards in 2022. The cancellation is a big setback for both Splash Damage and Hasbro. In the meantime, gamers can enjoy Gears 5 and Gears Tactics while they wait for the new projects from Splash Damage.
