Quaker Oats has recalled its Pearl Milling Company Original Pancake & Waffle Mix that may contain undeclared milk, according to the US Food and Drug Administration on January 15, 2025.

On January 14, the Quaker Oats Company issued a voluntary recall of two-pound boxes of the affected product when it was alerted by a retail partner. However, the company has not disclosed how many boxes have been affected in the process.

However, it mentioned that the recalled product is in a cardboard box of size 32 OZ (2LB) 907g, with UPC 30000 65040, which is printed at the bottom and includes a "Best By" date of September 13, 2025.

FDA has alerted consumers to refrain from consuming the milk if they are allergic or sensitive to milk as they run at a risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction.

The notice further mentioned that the product is not available in the market but would have been available for purchase from November 18, 2024, in 11 states. These states include Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Minnesota, Mississippi, Nebraska, Utah, and Wisconsin.

What else did the Quaker Oats Company mention in their report?

The Quaker Oats Company advised in a press release on January 14, 2025, to discard the recalled product (Pearl Milling Company Original Pancake & Waffle Mix) immediately in case they have purchased it.

"If consumers have an allergy or sensitivity to milk, they should not consume the product and discard it immediately. Quaker has informed the FDA of this action. Consumers with the product described above can contact Quaker Consumer Relations at 1-800-407-2247 (9 a.m.–4:30 p.m. CST, Monday–Friday)."

On January 6, 2025, the FDA said on its website,

“Food allergies and other types of food hypersensitivities affect millions of Americans and their families. Food allergies occur when the body's immune system reacts to certain proteins in food. Food allergic reactions vary in severity from mild symptoms involving hives and lip swelling to severe, life-threatening symptoms, often called anaphylaxis, that may involve fatal respiratory problems and shock.”

Has Quaker Oats issued a recall earlier?

According to a report in Today, Quaker Oats issued a recall in 2024 for more than 100 products due to a risk of contamination with the presence of salmonella, a type of deadly bacteria that could be fatal if ingested.

The products that were affected during the recall included granola cereals and bars, Oatmeal Squares cereal, Cap'N Crunch cereals and bars, Gatorade protein bars, Munchies snack mix, and more. But the recall didn’t include Quaker Oats or Quaker Instant Oats.

The first recall was announced by the company in mid-December 2023 which included approximately 90 products, as per the report. However, in mid-January 2024, it added 40 more products.

According to the FDA, the affected products contained expiration dates of Oct. 31, 2024 or earlier. It recommended to dispose of the product in case people had them in their pantries.

Last week, Lifestyle Evolution Inc. recalled selected lots of NuGo Dark Chocolate Chip and Dark Chocolate Pretzel nutrition bars as they may contain undeclared milk, a report in Business Insider stated. Whereas, in December 2024, Ralph's Packing Company recalled around 3,132 pounds of RTE pork and beef bologna products for similar concerns.
