According to GSUSA Chief Revenue Officer, Wendy Lou, the Girl Scout cookie season is a huge opportunity for the girls to transform themselves:

"The beloved tradition is an opportunity for girls to build important life skills like goal-setting, money management, teamwork, and decision-making," she said. "Every cookie box sold helps a girl take the next step toward becoming a confident leader."

The program offers badges like the financial literacy badge, the cookie goal-setter badge, and the entrepreneur accelerator badge that could be earned throughout the season.

"Financial literacy is not only a critical skill required for entrepreneurship, but an essential life skill," Lou added.

As posted by NPR, a spokesperson from the Girl Scout organization said:

"We routinely reevaluate our cookie lineup to make room for new innovations. Discontinuing Toast-Yay! and Girl Scout S'mores may lead to something new and delicious."

The Girl Scout Cookie program began in 1917 in Muskogee, Oklahoma when the Mistletoe Troop baked and sold cookies as a service project to support soldiers during World War I. After its expansion by 1936, the Girl Scouts of the USA started licensing commercial bakers to produce cookies that could be sold across the country, which marked the beginning of the iconic cookies sold throughout the country today’s date.
