In February 2024, Burger King publicized its first Million Dollar Whopper Contest with more than one million Whopper-fanatics. Fans submitted their dream Whopper sandwich recipe ideas to the possibility of featuring them in restaurants and winning a grand prize of $1 million. After months of anticipation, the burger chain has finally raised the curtains to reveal the top finalists.
This month, the burger chain finally revealed its three winning creations ready for people to try at several restaurants in the U.S.
The three flavors being offered under the Million Dollar Whopper Contest
From the open invitation of more than a million entries, Burger King cut them down to three completely different finalists. Each of them exhibited creative takes on the classic Whopper. The Million Dollar Whopper Contest by Burger King was launched as an inventive way to let fans create their ideal Whopper sandwich.
A brand statement shared with Food & Wine reads:
"After reviewing more than a million creative and mouthwatering submissions, Burger King and its team of flame-grilled experts have selected the three finalists."
Patt O'Toole, Chief Marketing Officer, Burger King North America said,
“The Million Dollar Whopper Contest was all about taking [‘Have It Your Way’] to the next level, and we were blown away by the thought and creativity that went into the Whopper creations that were submitted. Selecting just three finalists was no easy task, but we’re confident Guests will love these creative delicious takes on the iconic Whopper sandwich, and can’t wait for them to be available in restaurants this fall.”
He further added,
"We couldn't think of a better way to recognize and celebrate our biggest Whopper lovers than with a special offer that lets everyone feel like a winner. We can't wait to hear what our Guests think of these three new creations stack up to the classic and look forward to them ultimately crowning the winner of the $1 million grand prize.".

- Fried Pickle Ranch Whopper: Fabian from California created this new innovative Whopper where the foundation is pickle ranch sauce, fried pickles, bacon, Swiss cheese, and a beef patty grilled over a flame, served on a toasted sesame bun. As a whole, the fried pickles with ranch make the food incredibly tangy and creamy, and the bacon and Swiss cheese add richness to it.
- Maple Bourbon BBQ Whopper: This is a creation of Calvin from California. The Maple Bourbon BBQ Whopper sandwich features the flavors of smoky maple bourbon BBQ sauce, crispy onions, jalapeños, bacon, and American cheese. The maple is balanced by an oily spicy taste of the jalapeños and crispy onions to bring a layered, bold flavor.
- Mexican Street Corn Whopper: Kelsie from Nebraska came through with this one. She topped the beef patty with street corn spread, Southwest-seasoned tortilla crisps, lettuce, tomato, and Mexican spicy queso. The street corn spread and tortilla crisps add texture, while the spicy queso lends a zest to that combination that is perfectly peppery for the flame-grilled patty.
The participating locations across the U.S. will carry these creations for a limited time, and fans can vote for their favorite flavor to help crown which one is the reigning Whopper. The winning creation will take home a $1 million prize and potentially find its way onto the Burger King menu.
Burger King's system operations include over 19,000 locations in more than 120 countries and U.S. territories. Nearly 100 percent of Burger King restaurants are owned and operated by independent franchisees, many of whom are family-owned generational ventures.
