What is the idea behind the opening of new stores?
Speaking upon selecting a store, marketing executives, Tara Miller, and, Matt Solan, explained on an episode of Inside Trader Joe’s podcast, that the selection of a store depends on factors such as population density, traffic patterns, and parking facilities among other factors:
“Our decisions, they’re business decisions. We’re excited when people are excited about us, but that’s really not what’s driving the decisions about what brings a Trader Joe’s,” Miller said.
The two also explained that Trader Joe's is very particular about its “controlled growth” and will avoid moving to places that already have the former grocery store.
Another report stated that customers play a crucial role in the opening of new Trader Joe’s stores. The customers are offered a chance by the company’s website to suggest potential locations. Taking their suggestions into consideration, the final decision is eventually made by the company that meets their business goals.
