The fifth suspect linked to the murder of Jacksonville rapper Charles Jones also known as Julio Foolio has been taken into custody after being on the run for several months.

Davion Murphy was arrested by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office on Monday, January 6 at a Jacksonville apartment with the help of his gang members and the U.S. Marshals Service, informed the authorities in social media posts.

“This arrest highlights our commitment and perseverance to solving this murder,” said JSO Director of Investigations and Homeland Security Mark Romano, according to the post.

Davion Murphy was wanted for the murder of rapper Julio Foolio which took place on June 23, 2024, in Tampa, according to the reports. He was identified as one of the three shooters including Sean Gathright and Rashad Murphy, who are already in custody.

The others who were involved in the 26-year-old rapper’s murder were Isaiah Chance and Alicia Andrews. Like the rest of the suspects, Davion Murphy is charged with first-degree murder in connection with the shooting.

The authorities believed that the murder stemmed from the ongoing war between Jone’s gang, 6 Block, and rival gangs ATK and 1200. A report in Fox 13 indicated that Jones was known for his rivalry with other artists and his songs featured violent themes about actual murders.


How was Julio Foolio killed?

The June 23 shooting which killed the rapper Julio Foolio and injured three others took place on his birthday visit to Tampa, as per the reports.

Isaiah Chance and Alicia Andrews, both 21 acted as lookouts. They followed the rapper as he moved around the city, visiting clubs with his entourage, reports stated.

The gunmen including Sean Gathright, Rashad, and Davion Murphy reportedly opened fire at the rapper’s car at Home2 Suites hotel on McKinley Drive, just south of the University of South Florida.

Rashad (30) and Davion (27) Murphy are affiliated with a gang called 1200 Out East, the Jacksonville police informed. While, Chance belongs to ATK (Ace’s Top Killers), according to the police. These two gangs are allied in a war against 6-Block, of which Jones was a part.


Was this the first assassination attempt?

According to the reports, this was not the first time an attempt was made to kill Julio Foolio. Earlier, the rapper revealed on DJ Akademiks’ podcast that he came close to dying following an assassination attempt in 2021. Recalling the deadly incident, Foolio said,

“I walk out of the studio and walk to my car. Anytime I walk anywhere, I got my gun in my hand, walking wherever in Jacksonville, that’s just how you gotta be.” He continues that the moment he sat in his car, he heard “pop, pop, pop, pop” and saw “two n***as shootin’.”

He revealed that he fired back and then the car left. “When I hopped out of the car, I had one slide on, and I’m running back up to the studio. I ran to the studio like, ‘Boy, you set me up!’ He’s like, ‘Hell nah!’ He showed me his messages, like, ‘I swear to God, on my mom!'” the rapper said.

In the same show, he also talked about his years-long feud with Yungeen Ace. He explained how he felt while releasing a few diss tracks that targeted his rival’s friends.
