The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recalled more than 500,000 LG Slide-in and Freestanding kitchen ranges on February 6, 2025. These ranges, which feature cooktops and ovens, were recalled from retail outlets after more than 86 reports of accidental activation of their knobs were received by the organization.

The LG ranges or ovens pose the risk of being accidentally activated by humans or animals through their front-mouthed knobs and pose a fire risk to their environment.

The CPSC introduced the recalled products on its website as follows:

"This recall involves LG Slide-In Ranges and Freestanding Ranges with front-mounted knobs. The following model and serial numbers are included in this recall. The model number is located on the ranges inside the oven door or storage drawer located on the bottom of the oven. The ranges were manufactured in Mexico and Korea."

The organization’s website also stated that the accident-prone kitchen appliances could be fixed through repair.

More details on the recalled LG electric ranges

The CPSC reported that the Slide-in and Freestanding Electric ranges, manufactured in Mexico and Korea and sold at popular retail outlets, including Costco, Best Buy, and Lowe’s, have been involved in 28 fires. The organization further revealed that five fire incidents resulted in property damage of over $340,000.

Eight minor injuries had also been recorded as a result of the ovens, and three fires had caused the deaths of pets. The LG products have been in the market since 2015, and are priced between $1400 and $2650.

Consumers are advised on the CPSC website to contact LG for a free warning label with placement instructions. The label reminds users to deactivate the heating elements of the range when not in use using the Lock Out /Control Lock function.

The site also provides a link to watch instructional videos on the activation of the safety features. To reduce the risk of a fire accident, consumers have been warned to keep children and pets from accessing the knobs of the Ranges and ensure the knobs are off before leaving their houses or going to bed.

Do not leave objects on the stoves when they are not in use. The recall number for the Slide-in and Freestanding electric ranges is 25-126. For a list of the model and serial numbers of the recalled products, visit the CPSC website.
