Gamers received news in May 2024 that the highly anticipated GTA 6 game would launch on PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X/S in Fall 2025. It would seem that Grand Theft Auto’s latest game installment would also be available on the Nintendo Switch 2.

According to reports from Kick Start Game on February 11, 2025, the CEO of Take-Two, Strauss Zelnick, at the company’s financial results call, dropped hints that Take-Two, the parent company of Rockstar Games, creators of the GTA 6 game, are open to having their games on the Nintendo Switch 2.

When questioned on the possibility of the Nintendo Switch supporting games from Mafia, Borderlands, and GTA publishers, Zelnick responded:

“As you may have noted, Civilization 7 is now on Switch. So while we have nothing specific to report, we actually would fully expect to support Switch."

While the CEO did not make any specific statements regarding GTA 6 coming to Nintendo Switch 2, he expressed that Take-Two had had a longstanding relationship with Nintendo and was open to supporting the new version of the gaming console. He stated:

“We’ve had obviously a long-standing relationship with Nintendo and we’ve supported the platform when it made sense for the individual release,”

He added:

"There was a time when Nintendo platforms [were] really geared at younger audiences and that was reflected in our release schedule. And now today with Switch and potentially with Switch 2, the Switch device can support any audience.”

Whether or not the Switch 2 would support GTA 6 remains to be seen.

Rockstar, creators of GTA games, announced the upcoming GTA 6 in December 2023. Sam Houser, founder of Rockstar Games, made the statement:

"Grand Theft Auto VI continues our efforts to push the limits of what’s possible in highly immersive, story-driven open-world experiences. We’re thrilled to be able to share this new vision with players everywhere.”

GTA VI is set in the fictional streets of Vice City in the State of Leonida. It has been described by Rockstar Games as the biggest, most immersive evolution of the Grand Theft Auto series yet.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled to be released on April 2, 2025. On January 16, 2025, Nintendo teased sneak peeks of the upcoming game hardware. The trailer shows the new model in all-black, with a larger screen and Joy-Con controllers than the 2017 design.

According to Nintendo, the Switch 2 will play exclusive games with other digital and physical Switch games. The brand also hinted that certain Nintendo Switch-exclusive games might not play in the new gaming console.
