Toyoda Gosei and ASICS have come together again to create another sustainable sneaker. This time, they remodeled the classic SKYHAND OG silhouette, marking the second collaboration between the two brands. The sneakers are made from leather remnants gathered from the manufacturing process of steering wheels. This pair embodies both companies' waste reduction philosophy.
The ASICS SKYHAND silhouette is ready to add another iteration to its vast collection. According to Toyoda Gosei's official page, this fresh rendition will be released on February 1, 2025. The sneakers are tagged with a selling price of $120 and will be available for purchase via the ASICS online store.

Toyoda Gosei is a Japanese company that manufactures and sells automotive parts and other products. It describes its second collaborative product with ASICS as follows:
"Toyoda Gosei has been pursuing ways to further reduce waste materials by selling various products under the Re-S ethical brand, transforming difficult-to-recycle airbag fabric and steering wheel leather remnants into bags, pen cases, and other products. ASICS has also been using recycled materials in its shoes and sportswear."

"The current project is Toyoda Gosei's second collaboration with ASICS, following the launch of sneakers that use airbag fabric in January 2023. The two companies are cooperating across industry boundaries under a shared philosophy for achieving a sustainable society. To use materials with as little waste as possible, original techniques are incorporated in this project, such as combining small pieces into a patchwork."
The Toyoda Gosei x ASICS SKYHAND OG "Leather Remnant" sneakers have an all-black color-blocking scheme and feature uppers crafted from a unique blend of synthetic suede paneling and leather overlays. The steering wheel stitching and patchwork layering increase their appeal as a street fashion staple.
These sneakers didn't stray far from the original SKYHAND design. They come in a low-cut silhouette and use ASICS' iconic FLYTEFOAM Propel cushioning and EVA wedge heels that sit on a gum outsole. Brand detailing includes the ASICS signature 'A' pattern on the sides, an inscribed 'Asics' on the midsole, and an 'Asics' print patch attached to the tongue. Other features include perforations of the forefoot, a padded collar, and a lace-type closure.
