The Weeknd on his upcoming Hurry Up Tomorrow album and film project.
Jem Aswad of Variety got up close and personal with the four-time Grammy Award winner as he discussed his upcoming album and film projects. The Weeknd revealed details about his Hurry Up Tomorrow album, set to be released on January 24, 2025.
The album is the third installment of the singer’s semi-autobiographical series, which began with After Hours in 2020 and continued with Dawn FM. It explores genres like acoustic guitars, classical R&B, and pop. One of its tracks takes inspiration from Prince’s Purple Rain.
The singer stated that the album was a reflection on his journey as a musician and the mental breakdown he experienced at the end of the After Hours Til Dawn North American tour:
"I knew that I really needed to sit the f*** down and figure out my life. To understand what happened, face it, learn something new, and start again. I’d had a kind of a mental breakdown, which is pretty much what this new album’s about.”
The body of work also boasts several big names in the music industry, which the artist declined to comment on.
A film loosely connected to the Hurry Up Tomorrow album will be released in May 2025 via Lionsgate. It will star Jenna Ortega, Barry Keoghan, and the singer himself. Trey Edward Shults directed the film, which Reza Fahim co-wrote.
