McDonald’s started selling Happy Meals containing Pokemon Trading Card Game booster packs on January 21, 2025, and resellers are reportedly selling them for as high as $1000. For a limited time, the Golden Arches is offering Happy Meals containing Pokemon TCG booster packs.

These packs feature four of the fifteen sought-after Pokemon TCG cards, a Pokemon poster, and a sticker sheet for decorating the poster. The Happy Meal boxes also feature graphics of Charizard, Pikachu, and Dragonite as a group and Rayquaza and Roaring Moon individually.

The fan-favorite Dragon-themed cards are only available for a limited time and are highly sought after by players and collectors. Currently, a white box stamped with McDonald’s branding is being offered for a whopping $1000—it purportedly contains 150 dragon discovery packs.

@Dexerto on X reported the high resale prices with screenshots of different listings ranging from $19 to $799. Netizens expressed frustration and disappointment over the news.

@Westica_ tweeted in reply:

“Scalpers ruin everything.”

Other X users shared the same sentiments and berated scalpers for the exorbitant prices.

“People are insufferable lol,” @ConnorAndrews responded.
“Seems like McDonald’s and Pokemon just created a collector’s dream. People are flipping Happy Meals for big bucks guess it’s not just the kids who are hungry now,” @ANDRES78087 stated.
“Scalpers have absolutely ruined Pokemon. I shouldn’t have to pay double to get my kid a pack of cards,” @jasonJadofsky complained.

Some Netizens found the high resale prices unnecessary given the availability of the cards at McDonald’s and expressed the following:

“Pls tell me nobody is buying these… it only takes 3-4 kid meals to finish the set,” @Daddy_Xerath expressed.
“I just got one from a Happy Meal. These aren’t hard to get stop fomo-ing,” @itsivanduhh added.
“This is EXACTLY what happened 2021 prior to the Celebrations release. The most expensive card of 2021 McDonald’s promo fell down to like 1€ in my area. Don’t succumb to FOMO, don’t fall for this,” @BassRL_ warned.

More reactions trailed the post:

“Whoever is buying these pieces of cardboard for these prices seek help,” @only1BrisX added.
“The Pokemon tag trading community is out of hand. Your not gonna get out of poverty over a trading card!” @Colonel_Smiles stated.

More details on the McDonald’s Pokemon Dragon Discovery packs

Introducing the limited-edition Pokemon Dragon Discovery packs, Guillaume Huin, Senior Marketing Director at McDonald’s stated:

“There’s nothing more exciting than when we can bring campaigns to our fans with partners that we’re fans of ourselves. Much like they do for McDonald’s, our fans have deep nostalgia and love for the Pokémon brand. We’re thrilled to build on those great memories and create a new moment of fun and happiness with the new Pokémon Happy Meal.”

For every Happy Meal purchase made from the restaurant chain's app, customers will unlock a bonus in the Pokemon TCG Pocket app—a one-time redeemable code to access 24-pack hourglasses and 12 wonder hourglasses. These packs are useful for unlocking two digital booster packs and a random digital card in the Wonder Pick feature.

Fans can also visit their local McDonald’s restaurant to participate in the Pokemon Go activation launched in December 2024.

The Pokemon Happy Meal, launched on January 21, 2025, will be available while stocks last. Stay tuned for more updates.
