Reebok is officially making a return to the basketball scene with the launch of the Reebok Engine A shoes. It is the brand's first true-performance basketball shoe.
After years of stepping away from the competitive market, the brand is back in with a sneaker that features modern specs relevant to today's global sneaker industry, the brand claims.
The design was debuted on the court by WNBA star Angel Reese. It signals Reebok’s renewed entry to performance basketball. The sneaker officially launches on February 13, 2025, in a Black/ Silver- White colorway. The pair will retail for $120.
The brand introduced the Reebok Engine A shoes in an official press release, stating:
"Reebok announces the launch of its highly anticipated performance basketball shoe, the ‘Engine A.’ Returning to the hardwood as the first official Reebok performance basketball sneaker since the early 2010s, the Engine A has been spotted on today’s top basketball stars – including WNBA All-Star Angel Reese – and will become available for sale globally on February 13th, 2025 in the debut Silver colorway."
Reebok Engine A: Design & performance features explored
One of the sneakers' standout features is the molded exoskeleton upper. This is a one-piece synthetic construction for a flexible fit. The color blocking in the design is a nod to Reebok’s Mobius line from the ‘90s.
The Reebok Engine A features Reebok’s Energy Return System (ERS), a lightweight EVA midsole. The sneaker also features Nitrogen-infused SuperFloat foam in the heel and forefoot. This cushioning setup is expected to absorb impact.
Additionally, the Reebok Engine A is built with a multi-directional herringbone traction pattern. The rubber outsole is designed to handle the intensity of professional play, the brand claims.
Reebok CEO Todd Krinsky said in a statement,
"The launch of the Reebok Engine A is a monumental moment for the brand as we reclaim our stance on the court and within basketball culture. The Engine A embodies all that Reebok stands for: top performance innovation, fearless risk-taking design and a continued commitment to deliver the best product possible to the athletes who are changing the game."
Shedding some light on the performance features of the latest basketball shoes by Reebok, the brand mentions,
"A one-of-a-kind, durable, lightweight basketball shoe that’s designed for the game that moves in every direction, Engine A features the patented Energy Return System technology, ERS™, in a modern design inspired by the brand’s ‘90s Mobius line, delivering a high-performance shoe for dynamic athletes."
It also adds,
"Speaking to the Engine A’s performance qualities, 5-star high school phenom Nate Ament comments: “A locked-in fit, great bounce and ample traction for quick moves, plus a look and design like no other. I’m excited to see it on the feet of hoopers of all levels.”"
Who’s wearing the Reebok Engine A?
Engine A is backed by Team RBK.B, a lineup of rising basketball players.
