This year's Pop Tarts Bowl was hosted at the Camping World Stadium located in Orlando, Florida on December 28, 2024. The final match was between the No. 19 Iowa State and the No. 16 Miami team, commonly referred to as the Cyclones and the Hurricanes. The No. 19 Iowa State took home the Pop Tarts Bowl toaster trophy after a 42-41 win.

The toaster trophy is not a regular trophy you see at any football game. This year, the Pop Tarts Bowl committee has leveled up their game and created a working toaster designed as a trophy. The trophy was the result of a collaboration between Pop Tarts and GE Appliances.

The purpose of the Pop Tarts Bowl toaster trophy is so that the winning team eats toasted Pop Tarts while celebrating their win.

Pop Tarts Bowl toaster trophy: The story of its creation

The creation of the toaster trophy started in November and was officially announced on 15 December 2024. According to Pop-Tarts Bowl CEO, Steve Hogan, the toaster trophy was something the fans demanded. He said,

"Our fans have made it clear: The Pop-Tarts Bowl isn’t just another game, it’s an experience... We listened, and with the help of GE Appliances, we’re delivering a trophy that doesn’t just sit on a trophy stand. We’re excited to share this fusion of fun and functionality with college football fans everywhere."

GE Appliances reached out to FirstBuild in order to make the toaster trophy come to life. According to Rick Suel, the FirstBuild director of project engineering, his first thoughts were on how the trophy should look like,

"The first response was, 'OK, come on,'... "This is a real thing? Are you serious?’ Then it’s, 'What does it need to look like? What are the dimensions? Is it going to be a regular toaster or do you want us to do movie magic?'
"We came up with a couple of designs that we thought might be possible. The stretch goal was an actual functional toaster."

GE Appliances and FirstBuild managed to pull it off. This is what Todd Getz, the GE Appliances brand executive director, had to say,

"We have a belief at GE Appliances that there is always a better way. When Pop-Tarts asked us to put a working toaster inside a football trophy, we were determined to figure it out... We have long been a part of meals in American homes with our appliances, but this was an unusual ask. Our engineers mocked up several designs followed by 3-D printed models to produce this hand-polished marvel, complete with a cord to plug it in—making toasted pastries possible, even on the football field."

What does the Pop-Tarts Bowl toaster trophy look like?

According to NBC Sports' Nicole Auerbach, the size of the toaster is "1.3x the size of a normal football + can toast full-sized Pop Tarts". In total, the trophy weighs about 80 pounds; 50 pounds for the base and 27 pounds for just the toaster.

In addition to this innovative toaster trophy, the Pop Tarts Bowl will also have new mascots for the season. One of the mascots was actually edible and was eaten after the game. MVP Rocco Becht decided to go with the Cinnamon Roll flavor for his team to eat.
