Nike is launching the Kobe 9 Elite Protro "Masterpiece" sneakers and the Kobe Details apparel collection on February 8, 2025. The "Year of Mamba" is an initiative set to pay homage to Kobe Bryant's contributions to basketball and influence beyond the game.

The Kobe 9 Elite Protro "Masterpiece" presents a new interpretation of the 2014 Kobe 9 Elite with design tweaks meant to refine the performance of the shoe. The apparel package adds sportswear items inspired by Bryant's focus on every detail of the game.

Both the shoes and the gear will be sold globally on Nike's website, in select retail, and using the Nike App. It would; therefore, attract basketball fans, sneakerheads, and people who are also interested in Bryant's legacy. The initiative is further complemented by training sessions that appear in the Nike App; challenging athletes to take up some aspects of Bryant's method of skill-building.

Features of the Kobe 9 Elite Protro "Masterpiece"

The Kobe 9 Elite Protro "Masterpiece" retains the high-top structure and Flyknit upper seen in the first 2014 version. In this updated iteration; Nike is using a new Nike React midsole for a more responsive ride than the older Lunarlon unit. The outsole features an updated traction pattern to help quickly change direction or make sudden stops, both on-court essentials.

The major visual detail of the shoe is a red line stitch in the heel, which is a representation of how Bryant has been able to overcome his Achilles tendon injury. The color palette is black, grey; and metallic silver and is not as flashy as a few versions of the Kobe prior. The shoe still uses carbon fiber support plates for stability.

Details of the Kobe apparel collection

The Kobe Details collection offers several sportswear items that combine basketball-inspired designs with lifestyle elements. One of the standouts is the men's pleated pants; which include micro-pleated mesh for added volume.

The women's pleated tear-away pants are constructed from the same fabric and feature diagonal snaps that reveal biker shorts underneath. Other items in the collection focus on layering and textural contrast; which are the ways Bryant perfects every part of his game.

The majority of the apparel is neutral and monochromatic tones; much like the visual theme of the sneaker release. The clothing is meant to be functional for both athletic and casual wear.

Pricing and availability of the Kobe apparel collection

The Kobe 9 Elite Protro "Masterpiece" will retail for $240, and the big kids' version will be available for $140. The Kobe Details apparel collection features the men's pleated pants at $150 and the women's pleated tear-away pants at $130.

These will be available everywhere in the world on February 8, 2025; via Nike's official channels and certain retail stores. Due to popular demand for all previous Kobe drops; the amount available will likely be limited. Customers can access the collection from the Nike website, the Nike App; or authorized retailers.

Just as with previous Kobe-related launches; there is an expectation surrounding availability; which is expected to sell out quickly.
