Sneaker design
This version of the sneaker impresses with its subtle play of textures and tones. The warm brown suede mudguards and overlays provide a smooth and neutral basis to the shoe while the collar, tongue, and toebox have woven knit accents to improve ventilation and augment visual appeal. The heel panel's darker fuzzy suede adds a rich, tactile contrast to the design.
This pair is enhanced with pops of "Burgundy Crush," which can be seen on the sockliner, along with TPU eyelets, and embroidered heel tab.
About Nike Air Max 1
1987 was a fantastic year for pop culture in many ways. The Simpsons debuted on television, Michael Jackson released Bad, Aretha Franklin became the first woman to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Nike unveiled the first Air Max sneaker, the Air Max 1.
Each of these would go on to have a significant impact, and usher a revolutionary change in some way that endures to this day.
Nike's Air Max 1 is remembered as a groundbreaking design that helped the company grow when it most needed to.
Nike's first shoe to use the Air-cushioned sole was introduced on March 26, 1987, after considerable back and forth over design issues. The same year, the sneaker was featured in the brand's first television commercial. Nike was attempting to reduce the size of their air technology, because the company was concerned that the transparent display would look fragile and be vulnerable to punctures. The idea seemed like a bold one.
The invention ultimately resulted in a shoe line that is still going strong 30 years later. Nike released the most inventive version to date in 2017 — the commemorative anniversary edition Ultra 2.0, along with the Air VaporMax.
With 3.26 adorning the tongue and honoring the original shoe's anniversary, the redesigned shoe was available in the original Air Max 1 colors. It is also among the lightest Air Max models ever made, because of the Ultra 2.0 outsole.
This version offers new details along with classic charm. This release's blend of high-end fabrics, earthy hues, and striking details makes it ideal for both casual and statement ensembles. Watch out for the redefined classic in Spring 2025.
