Nike Air Jordan 12 “Flu Game” shoe first appeared in 1997

Michael Jordan sported the AJ12 Black/Varsity Red for his Game 5 of NBA in 1997. MJ’s flu-like battle made his team, the Chicago Bulls, victorious. Earlier, in 2016, the “Flu Game” rendition of the model was reintroduced by Jumpman business. In 2025, the shoe will supposedly reappear in the market as the early look was recently shared by an insider, @xcsnkr, via its social media page.

The top of the “Flu Game” variant is mainly fashioned from black tumbled leather, as shown in the pictures. The black toe tops are surrounded by varsity red mudguards.

The tongue flaps, eyelets, lace sets, and midfoot area are all designed using black, which is emblazoned with red detailings, mainly branding accents. The Jumpman logo appears on the tongue, alongside the player’s jersey number “TWO 3.”

Following this, the heel counters feature the Jumpman logo, “JORDAN” wording, and Michael’s jersey number 23. Ultimately, the sole embraces both red and black tones. While the midsole seems black, the outsole is red.

The design inspiration and advancement of Air Jordan 12 is underlined on Nike’s website in the following manner:

“Released in 1996 and designed by Tinker Hatfield, the AJ 12 debuted in a black and white colorway, with inspiration drawn from the Japanese flag. The design built upon the legendary success of recent Air Jordan releases and took its place among collectors’ favorites. In 1997, the AJ 12 was released in a red colorway, and were later retro-ed in other colors in 2003, 2009, and 2016.”

Michael Jordan fans and other sneaker aficionados looking out for the retro Air Jordan 12 “Flu Game” variation are advised to stay in touch with the company’s website for timely updates on their launch.
