Pork products were recalled on December 20, 2024, by The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) which is a division of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).

The products have been sold in four states Oklahoma, Delaware, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. FSIS has drawn this recall for two meat categories: raw and ready-to-eat, per notifications released on fsis.usda.gov.

In one case, ready-to-eat meat from Ralph’s Circle R Brand has been recalled in Oklahoma. The second category of callback impacts the restaurants and retailers in the remaining three states that have sold Old World Italian Sausage.

It must be noted that Ralph's Packing Company has announced a recall of around 3,132 pounds of ready-to-eat (RTE) pork and beef bologna products. FSIS mentioned that the reason is misbranding and an undeclared allergen. Although unspecified on the product label, it might have milk, which is an allergen.

The recalled products are assigned the establishment number EST. 51557. They were distributed to retail and food service locations in Oklahoma. The FSIS speculated that some pork products were possibly sliced and sold at deli counters.

As per FSIS, the issue arose when milk was omitted from the product labels. However, so far, no adverse reactions have been reported, but consumers with concerns are advised to contact a healthcare provider.

The items have been produced since September 2022. Customers can check the images of the product labels available on fsis.usda.gov. Nonetheless, here are the lot codes for reference:

  • Ralph’s Circle R Brand Garlic Bologna - 0093, 0654, 0804, 1074, 1153, 1224, 1374, 1774, 1924, 2572, 2974, 3132, and 3483.
  • Ralph’s Circle R Brand Garlic Bologna with Jalapenos - 0804, 1074, 1224, 1233, 1354, 2184, and 3374.

Why was the Old World Italian Sausage recalled?

Similar to Ralph, Baltimore-based establishment Impero Foods & Meats has called back nearly 7,485 pounds of raw pork sausage products. The timeline of production is October 3, 2024, and December 19, 2024.

The recalled products bear the establishment number EST. 10827. They were distributed to restaurants and retail locations in Delaware, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. FSIS stated that some items may have been sold at deli counters without proper labels or identification.

Meanwhile, the issue was discovered during FSIS surveillance at a retailer, revealing that the items were produced at a facility with a suspended inspection grant and without FSIS oversight. It is noteworthy that no adverse reactions have been reported, but anyone with concerns about potential health effects is advised to contact a healthcare provider.

The two products that have been called back are given below. As per FSIS, the words rope and link have been handwritten on the products.

  • Old World Italian Sausage with rope
  • Old World Italian Sausage with link

For inquiries, buyers can reach out to Jerry Vitale, VP and Owner of Impero Foods & Meats, Inc., at 443-695-5750 or via email at [email protected].

The FSIS believes that some of the recalled products may still be stored in refrigerators or freezers by consumers and food service establishments. Hence, it is advised against consuming or serving these items. These products must either be discarded or returned.
