The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued the recall of Cal Yee Farms' chocolates on December 12, 2024. The chocolates were recalled since they may have contained undeclared ingredients. Some of the potential allergens included milk, wheat, soy, sesame, almonds, and a food dye, FD&C #6.

The products were recalled from nine US states. Customers notified the public that the products were also sold online and to check their food inventories. In a new update, the FDA has escalated the recall to a Class 1 level of severity. According to the FDA, exposure or use of the violative product can lead to severe health consequences.

2025 has begun with a host of food recalls by the FDA. Health authorities have escalated the recall of Cal Yee Farms' chocolates at the highest risk level for a few products, including dark chocolate almonds, dark chocolate walnuts, and dark chocolate apricots.

The FDA noted that the chocolates and yogurt-covered products may include undisclosed milk, consumption of which could lead to severe allergic reactions. Customers can visit the FDA website for a list of recalled products.

As per the FDA, the initial recall in December was made from California, Tennessee, Ohio, New Mexico, Arizona, Pennsylvania, Oregon, Virginia, and Texas. The products were reportedly packaged in four sizes (8 oz, 1 lb, 2 lb, and 5 lb). The chocolates came in clear packaging, marked with a bright yellow label and a white label on the pack with the UPC.

Customers have been advised to check in states outside the 9 mentioned since the products were also sold online. Cal Yee Farms shared a statement and noted that customers:

"Who have purchased the affected products should not consume the product and should dispose of them or return them to us for a full refund.”

Undeclared allergens can potentially have severe health consequences. While health authorities are quick to issue recalls, it is also incumbent on customers to check the product details. Customers can visit the FDA website to see the full list of recalled products by Cal Yee Farms.

Customers are advised to regularly check the website and their pantries to see if they may have purchased any items that have been previously recalled.
