The murder suspect in the case involving the death of four University of Idaho students, Bryan Kohberger, enlisted forensic pathologist, Dr. Barbara C. Wolf, to assist him in avoiding the death penalty.
Dr. Wolf specializes in sensational trials such as the O.J. Simpson case. She is currently the medical examiner for Florida’s 5th and 24th judicial circuits. It is reported that she has a flair for managing highly sensitive and challenging claims.

Dr. Wolf received an education in the Six-Year Program in Liberal Arts and Medical Education at Boston University where she was honored as Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha scholar. She began her career as a medical examiner in Upstate New York and established her own forensic pathology firm where she dealt with police departments, coroners, and lawyers. The following year she took the position of Director of Forensic Medicine in the New York State Police Medicolegal Investigation Unit before moving to Florida.
She previously worked as an expert in defense for the O.J. Simpson trial where she studied forensic evidence with other leading experts. She also advised on significant questions concerning mass graves in Croatia and Bosnia and on Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) deaths leading to criminal charges.
Role in Kohberger's Defense
The defense is set to bring Dr. Wolf in to undermine the death penalty and the prosecution’s effort to tie Kohberger to the scene of the crime. The defense has maintained that the mere presence of Kohberger around the victims’ house on the night of the incident was inconclusive. His lawyers argue that he was usually in the habit of going for drives at that time.
Dr. Wolf’s testimony is going to be addressing legal and ethical issues around the death penalty in Idaho. Defense counsel argues that the state seeking the death penalty is unconstitutional, and violates contemporary standards of decency. They made multiple motions contesting a certain number of things that the prosecution filed, including trial fairness and whether or not their execution method was appropriate.
A judge has overruled objections from prosecutors who questioned the admissibility of Dr. Wolf’s testimony. She will testify as an expert witness remotely from Florida on November 7, 2024.

Kohberger was arrested on December 30, 2022, in Pennsylvania. He was then transferred to Idaho after four weeks. Kohberger is accused of four counts of first-degree murder and a felony burglary. Kohberger’s trial was transferred to Boise Idaho because Latah County said they couldn’t find impartial jurors because of the media and the sentiments of the people towards the crime. The trial is to begin in June 2025.
