The holiday season is back, and so is Starbucks, with its exciting red cups. The café company is ready to bring back its annual Red Cup Day, a holiday season tradition where customers receive a free reusable cup with a purchase. On November 1, 2024, the cooperation hinted at the date in an Instagram post featuring a gift tag shaped like a red cup with "11/7" written and the caption, "Holiday cheer is almost here."

Interestingly, Red Cup Day often aligns with Starbucks' holiday menu launch. According to USA Today, creative director Kristy Cameron expressed that the company enjoyed capturing authentic moments of joy and coffee to spark creativity, whether it was the process of growing coffee trees, roasting beans, or simply celebrating the arrival of the red cups with their community.

Starbucks blended its iconic green with a vibrant cranberry red to enhance the festive spirit for this season's cup design. Cameron noted their enthusiasm for using green this year, especially the jade green, which brings a lively touch and joyfully connects with the brand’s color.

The theme for this holiday season, "Merrier Together," celebrated the community spirit that the holidays bring, symbolized by the uniting power of song. Cameron mentioned that the team was inspired by voices coming together, likening it to the siren’s song, which gave the theme a musical feel.

This time, customers can choose from four hot and one cold cup: Warm Wishes, Joyful Connection, Lyrical Landscape, Siren Chorus, and Holiday Cold Cup, respectively.

Starbucks’ holiday cup designs have a unique story to tell

Giving a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the cups, the cafe company gave an insight into the creative team behind the holiday cups. Each design shall have a unique story, from designing the cups to giving them a shape.

Starbucks described the interconnected dots on their Warm Wishes cups as symbolizing festive lights and shared coffee moments. The design of the Joyful Connection cup drew inspiration from the coffee roasting process at a Reserve Roastery, using circular shapes to celebrate both the craft of roasting and the joy of gathering.

Starbucks incorporated vibrant lines into the Lyrical Landscape design for the gift-giving season, which was meant to resemble holiday ribbons and the lush hills where coffee is grown. Alternating red, green, and pink added a festive touch, evoking a beautifully wrapped gift.

Additionally, the cafe joint honored its iconic siren logo and coffee bean production in its Siren Chorus cup with a striped holiday charms design inspired by the patterns of raked coffee beans and the flowing lines of the siren, creating a colorful holiday chorus.

Lastly, it designed a special cup for customers who enjoy cold drinks during the holiday season. Festive charms decorated the Holiday Cold Cup, bringing a cheerful touch to the season's chilled beverages.

Earlier this week, Starbucks also announced that it would remove the extra charge for non-dairy milk options in the U.S. beginning November 7. Non-dairy milk substitutes, such as soy, oat, almond, and coconut milk, rank as the second most popular customization among customers, with only an extra shot of espresso topping it, according to the company’s press release.
