McDonald’s and Squid Game have gained much attention recently for their collaboration. The latest in this endeavor is a complete meal inspired by the thriller series. The limited-time Squid Game meal was released on December 11, 2024, and will be available at the participating McDonald's restaurants in Australia till January 7, 2025.
Besides 10-piece McNuggets, French Fries, and a drink, buyers will also get a limited-time Korean BBQ dipping sauce. However, that’s not the end. The main attraction of the collaboration is the Dalgona Candy which is available in various shapes like a triangle, circle, star, or the ‘M’ in McDonald's.
With the launch of this new meal, McDonald's is giving customers the chance to win $100,000 with the Dalgona Candy challenge. The challenge requires customers to carve out the symbol on the Dalgona Candy within ten minutes without breaking it.
Customers can participate by using the MyMacca’s app to scan their candy once it is fully carved out. Successful participants will then enter a drawing to win either an exclusive Green Player Tracksuit inspired by the series or $100,000. Amanda Naked, Marketing Director for the restaurant’s Australia division released a statement saying,
“You’ve seen Squid Game on Netflix, now experience it at Macca’s as we bring the game to life for our customers and fans alike across our restaurants.”
The statement continued,
“Whether you’re a Macca’s collector, are planning to binge-watch Squid Game, or simply want to enjoy this unique candy, now is your chance to get in on this exclusive collaboration. So, the only question is… are you ready to play?”
The McDonald’s x Squid Game meal will be served in an adult-sized box as per an official statement
Customers must note that the McDonald’s and Squid Game Dalgona Candy challenge will be available nationwide until January 7, 2025, as long as the stock lasts.
The collaboration meal comes in an adult-sized and themed box. Since the item will be available for a limited time, it is important that one collects all the different Dalgona Candy shapes and wins the challenge.
Food vlogger Aussie shared a review of the meal on his YouTube channel. He got the medium meal for $18.85 but said a large meal was also available. After trying the Dalgona candy, he said,
“Wow, that was something I tried before but with a twist. It’s actually got a sweet and bitter taste.”
Despite that, he personally did not like the crunch factor of the cookie. He got a circle cookie and was successful in carving out the shape. He liked the Korean BBQ dipping sauce and said it had a bit of a spice to it.
Previously, Domino’s and the series collaborated to offer free pizzas for a year. Fans at Manhattan’s Squid Game: The Experience had to participate in a game where the players with the lowest score from the competing teams stood a chance to win free pizzas for a year. The prize was an award of $500 in gift cards.
