Walmart is making the headlines again, this time for recalling a common ingredient from its stores across nine US states. The grocery market chain has issued an urgent recall of Great Value Chicken broth from 242 stores. In a press release, the brand explained that the products had been recalled due to potential 'packaging failures.'

The chain has requested that its customers who may have the product discard it and seek a full refund immediately.

In a press release, Walmart issued an immediate recall of 2,023 cases of Great Value Chicken Broth due to a "potential for packaging failures that could compromise the sterility of the product, resulting in spoilage." Each case includes 6 packets of broth, and the mentioned expiry date was March 25, 2026. The UPC code of the products is 007874206684. A spokesperson from the brand noted:

"The health and safety of our customers is always a top priority."

They added:

"As soon as we were made aware of the issue, we took action to remove all impacted product from the select, impacted stores. We are continuing to work with the supplier to investigate."

The states from which the recall has been issued are:

  1. Arkansas
  2. Alabama
  3. Georgia
  4. Louisiana
  5. Missouri
  6. Mississippi
  7. Oklahoma
  8. Tennessee
  9. Texas

There can be numerous reasons behind major food recalls. However, irrespective of the reasons, recalls come at a huge cost of time, money, and resources. For any other food or product recall, customers are advised to check the Walmart Recall website or any new issue by the Food and Drug Administration.

Unfortunately, product recalls are not too infrequently reported by the grocery giant. Even in 2024, the chain recalled products from various categories, including food and medicine. It is important to note that the Great Value Chicken Broth products were recalled on December 11, 2024. However, the notice was issued by the Food and Drug Administration on January 8, 2025.
