Starbucks has moved out of Pike Place Market in Seattle. Between 2022 and 2024, the coffee brand closed several other stores in Seattle. While the exact reasons haven't been specified, profile evaluation and safety concerns have been cited. Sam Jefferies noted in an emailed statement that the closure is a part of the "standard course of business."

He explained,

"We regularly evaluate our store portfolio to determine how we can best meet our community and customers’ needs and ensure partners are supported in crafting beverages in a warm and welcoming environment."

He added,

“We look forward to continuing to serve the community and visitors at our other nearby locations, including the original store at 1912 Pike Place and 1st and University.”

The leasing agent of the building, Adam Hasson confirmed that Starbucks signed an early termination letter early in December 2024. While it is unclear when new stores in Seattle will open, CEO Brian Niccol talked about plans for the brand. He noted that there may be fewer cafe openings. However, funding and energy will be redirected to redesigning the stores.

While a cafe in the prime location of Seattle has been shut down, customers can expect to find newer in the future. Starbucks at the University Village is reportedly reopening on February 14, 2025. The news of the closure comes amid countrywide labor strikes by employees of the brand.
