The popular horror game franchise, Friday the 13th: The Game, ended its online service on December 31, 2024, and fans are sad to see it go. The game became an instant hit upon its release in 2017 due to its storyline based on the hit movie franchise and its PvE horror game features.

Friday the 13th: The Game's momentum was greatly affected by Intellectual Property disputes, which eventually led to its cancellation. The game’s official X page shared the sad news on June 8, 2023, with the caption:

“The time has come. Our license for Friday the 13th will expire on December 31, 2023. On that date, Friday the 13th: The Game will no longer be available for sale, both physically and digitally. The game will, however, continue to function through at least December 31, 2024, if you already own it.”

Following the Gun Interactive’s shutdown of Friday the 13th servers, fans of the game have taken to social media to express sadness over their loss.

@iitempxx on X tweeted about playing the game during its last few seconds on Jan 1, 2025, with the caption:

“The last few seconds of Friday the 13th online servers still running. I’m going to miss the game so much, all the memories will never be forgotten,”

“Gone but never forgotten! I still got my mask from the collector’s edition!” Another replied.

Others thanked the multiplayer game for introducing them to new friends:

“On top of this game just being genuine fun, I made a lot of friends and had such an incredible social experience on the game. Have rarely had social experiences that were this fun,” another X user replied.
“I spent so many nights of my late teens and early twenties in the wonderful world of Crystal Lake. The people I met and the memories made will never be forgotten. Thank you for everything, Jason! It lives on in our hearts!” A fan expressed.

Another section of the comments was surprised to learn that the game was still on for that long:

“I thought it shut down last year so I stopped playing,” an X user stated.
“This is how I find out the game was still online,” another comment read.
"Sure is one way to find out the game is shutting down. How come? Lack of money or like, whatsup? Another asked.

More details as Friday the 13th: The Game shuts down for good

For those unversed, Friday the 13th: The Game was developed by ILLFONIC and published by Gun Media in 2017. It was based on the 1980 movie of the same name.

The game is set in the fictional Camp Crystal Lake, where multiple players controlling the Camp Crystal Lake counselors try to escape from another player that controls Jason Voorhees, a character who tries to kill as many counselors as possible.

The asymmetrical multiplayer video game featured a semi-open world setting, which the players could explore further. Due to licensing issues with the franchise's creator, Victor Miller, the game was delisted in 2023.

All online services were discontinued as of January 1, 2025, and anyone who tries to log in is greeted with the message: “Database login failure!”

An exclusive news release from Rely On Horror on June 6, 2023, promised that a new Friday the 13th Game was in the works. Score composer for the franchise, Harry Manfredini, revealed to the publication that he was working on a New Friday the 13th game, which will feature “more realistic looking characters.”
