Footwear brand Nike has good news in store as it will release the Air Tech Challenge 2 “Racer Pink” sneaker on January 31, 2025. Priced at $150, this sneaker is reportedly one of the most sought-after shoes. Once released, customers can buy them from nike.com.
According to SoleSavy, the Nike Air Tech Challenge 2, created by renowned designer Tinker Hatfield, reflects tennis player Andre Agassi's bold personality with its striking pinkish-red "hot lava" design.
When it first came out in late 1989, the shoe was a top performer and the first Agassi sneaker to feature a visible Air-Sole unit. Back then, some other material, besides leather, was used in making the shoes. More colorways were also released in the decade that followed.
However, the latest 2025 Nike pair has a more aged approach with a white upper. The splashes of pink throughout enhance the appearance of the shoes.
Reportedly, even though the shoes have an official release date of January 31, 2025, some retailers have already launched a pre-release or what reviewers call, the quick-strike release.
The shoe has a real leather upper with a coconut milk touch on the midsole that gives a vintage look. Moreover, it has some similarities with Yeezy 2 as it is reportedly inspired by the Air Tech Challenge 2 “Racer Pink.”
Nike Air Tech Challenge 2 “Racer Pink” sneaker has Max Air cushioning
The Air Tech Challenge 2 “Racer Pink” has the classic traction pattern. Its design features the visible Air-Sole unit that provides cushioning and adds to its classic look. The Racer Pink version combines this retro feel with modern colors.
Nike describes the sneaker as:
“Hitting the '90s tennis scene on the feet of the hottest player at the time, the Air Tech Challenge 2 turned heads with its unconventional style. Well, it's back—with the same attitude that made it an icon. This edition pairs crisp white leather with Light Smoke Grey and Racer Pink accents, reinvigorating one of its most beloved colorways. Fully equipped with visible Max Air cushioning, it's no surprise this pioneering cult classic has stood the test of time.”
YouTuber Big AI’s Kicks shared a review of the sneaker on January 12, 2025. He appreciated the return to the original design and feel, saying they looked much better than the previous retros. He praised the release and encouraged those who missed out to stay patient, as the shoes will likely be available for purchase again soon.
Nike released the hot lava pair of the colorway in 2024. When the “Racer Pink” colorway originally came out, they were made only for women. However, they are now worn by men as well. While sharing a review about the shoe, YouTuber WearYourKicks26 said they gave Jordan four vibes.
